Certainly NOT a turmoil in tailoring - Gay Talese

Gay Talese, the father of New Journalism and the son of a southern Italian tailor, reminds me of my father. The two were great friends, often referring to each other as brothers, and shared many of the same interests; from a thirst for self-discovered knowledge to fare la bella figura.

From a young age I was always interested in Gay's style. He has enough personal quirks to make Lino jealous! He once told my father that he would never purchase an automobile that he could not fit into with his fedora on. My favorite was always the fact that he kept shirt boards from the laundry with him at all times for notetaking.

I hate to say this, but to me Talese has never looked completely comfortable in his clothes. I'm all for what he's trying to do, but, to me, he seems to be trying a little too hard.

Call me crazy . . .
